EEEk, could 2018 really be my year?! So far, I have to say it has been pretty damn special already! If you’ve been following me over on instagram or Facebook you may have already seen my special announcement earlier in January. Travis and I are ENGAGED!
On my birthday on the 12th January, Travis and I spent a night in at home celebrating over dinner. Trav asked me what I wanted him to cook for me for my birthday and I always ask for the same thing on any special occasion. Funnily enough it isn’t anything special – chicken korma from a store-bought jar (cue multiple eyeball rolls from budding Masterchefs everywhere). It’s the first dish Trav ever cooked for me (his cooking skills have dramatically improved since then haha 😉 ) and every time he wants to make me a special dish, for some reason I always ask for this – I don’t know why I do but I love it! After we finished eating dinner Trav said he needed to ask me something and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. And of course I said yes!
We had been talking about eventually getting married one day for a while now. Naturally, after being together for six years our friends and family had already been wondering and asking us when we’d get engaged so the topic was no stranger to us. Trav admitted he had hoped we could have gotten engaged in Byron Bay during our holiday in October last year but he hadn’t quite settled on the right design for the ring just yet – which I think is so sweet.

I’m a firm believer that you don’t need some exuberant declaration of love when it comes to a wedding proposal and I always hoped when the time came Trav would ask me when he was ready and it would be special in its own way. I loved that he did it at home in our lounge room. We were able to get excited about it and laugh and chat about it for a few hours afterwards as we sat on the lounge room floor smiling from ear to ear and wondering how the heck do we start to tell people about it!?
I’ve known for a long time that I’ve wanted to marry Travis and he has said the same thing to me. We’ve always been so open about our feelings for each other and I am so excited that he has asked me to be his wife! Trav designed the ring himself (it’s such a stunner from Brilliant Earth) and it’s perfect in every way I could have imagined. I couldn’t have asked for a better ring (the boy did good!)
In true form, we’ve already had the many questions from our family and friends like ‘have you set the date?’, ‘will you get married this year?’, and the rest. We haven’t set any plans just yet, and for now we are enjoying the love bubble we seem to be floating in which feels amazing. I love that we are both so excited about our future plans, even though we aren’t 100% certain on the finer details of a wedding just yet.
All I know is we wont be getting married in 2018. We already have a huge year ahead of us with two weddings to attend, one of them being located in Ireland (more about that trip in another post soon), a friend’s hens party to attend on the Gold Coast and an engagement party to plan!
Of course, being the girly girl that I am, I have already started reading bridal mags (I bought two of them this week) and blogs, just to research and think up ideas for our own special day. I don’t want to rush anything but I do want to have options and ideas in mind when it does come time to setting real plans for our day.
I can’t wait! I’ll keep you posted on all the excitement and research as I go along. I hope you’ll enjoy this journey with me. I could not be happier right now.
